Post Android App - Alpha Release

    It's finally here!

(sorta... I'm working on some small refinements that should make it better overall and it's missing the PAX calculator that the iOS version has but figured I would get some runtime during the upcoming event)

As the iPhone app, it's a quick touch away from event schedule/registrations and forum, most importantly, on-site results have their own direct tab, no need to enter the IP address in your browser anymore (or use that bookmark)!

To keep things simpler, the app is being distributed outside the Play Store. Rest assured, there is nothing in the app that does anything beyond show you the information you see. (if I was capable of something more I would probably rolling around in a fancy race car... or am I.... )

    To install the app:
    - download the app from the link below
    - your phone should prompt you that it is not a trusted app
    - in settings you can allow installation of the app (suggest using "allow initial install only")

    VCMC Android App

There's a lot of different variations in Android hardware/software so please let me know if something looks weird, I've only done some limited testing (here's hoping not)

Long term, hoping to display the results a little better

    Cheers!
    Zach

(mods) info in this thread can eventually be merged w/ the iPhone app thread once we get some runtime and no major issues are found, thanks!

Did anyone try this out on the weekend?

Did it display the event results properly?

Results worked well, Zach. This was very helpful to have. One thing that would be a meaningful improvement is a "refresh" button at the top of the results screen. Right now you have to go "back" then re-select the report you were viewing to get updated results.

Yeah, I did notice that and am working on one, didn't get it out in time for the weekend.

    Thanks Rich!

Refresh button worked great, thanks Zach! I also love that when it refreshes it doesn't jump back to the top of the page, unlike the web browser (which drives me crazy when I'm announcing!).

    Zach,
as you know, it works just fine (once You got my phone to get the updated version)... thanks.

One thing I noticed... it seems to use more battery power than when I use the Safari browser.
I recharge my battery every night, and last night it seemed to be lower (when I started the recharge)
than it has been when I use the Safari app.

But not really a big issue, since I recharge every night anyway.

Re: Android App - Alpha Release

The refresh non-jumping thing I can't take credit for, it just does it that way for some reason :P and yeah, that annoyed the hell out of me when announcing too, didn't think it would ever be 'fixable', figured it was just the nature of web browsers/pages

Woot, it's helping at least one person!

From now on I'm going to bring my tablet that I use for SoloStorm into the trailer when announcing!
