"...I recommend books. People who don't know what they're talking about are less likely to write a book about the subject...."
I hear the train is a good deal.
Neil
Last I remember, a train trip through the Chunnel from Paris to London or vice versa was about $100-140 Cdn. A flight would probably run you a bit more and not be much faster (when you take all the baggage pickup and security stuff into consideration).
The Ferry ride over the English Channel takes a couple hours and the train would still beat you there. Not to mention that you have to change the side of the road you drive on.
If you had to fly out of Heathrow the trip out from London plus time in the terminal would really cancel out any time advantage in flying. Even if you flew out of City, I remember Charles DeGaulle airport is still a ways out of Paris. The EuRail stations are right in the middle of town at each end.
If you don't have to drive in Paris, my vote is take the train. Upgrade to business class or equiv. IIRC you actually get a good meal, with wine of course. Public transportation in England and France is a no brainer if you aren't travelling outside of the city limits. Even then it's easy to rent a car.

well i havent gone that far out...but when i'm in germany i normally take the train to get around to visit friends.
its alot more interesting then with the areoplane and you meet some interesting people too :P
Joe,
DON'T FLY! You don't know when the France air traffic control will strike again + u lose a lot of time going to/from airports and security. Not Fun!
I've done train and car, and I prefer train. Your car actually goes on a train through the channel, "to avoid fatal accidents inside the tunnel." Also, parking and security is a big concern driving a GB vehicle in France. Some bastard broke the side mirror off Sammi's A3![]()
Hire a vehicle if you are going to outskirt Paris or need to get really really cheap grocery for your London's friends near Brussels.
Check out EuroStar prices here: http://www.eurostar.com/ Select London Waterloo to Paris Grand du Nord.
I might be able to get you TCC pricing, Sammi works at travel agency. no hotel package though.
You can also get late deals from UK's travel shops. Prices are actually cheap comparing to normal bookings for hotel and train packages, make sure you find a hotel LISTED with Air Conditioning.

Don't worry, Canadians are allowed to choose the side of the road they drive on....they're going to phase in driving on the right (correct) side of the road.......................they're going to start with trucks first! :P

The Festival of Speed is far more than just a hillclimb - it can justifiably claim to be the world’s biggest and most diverse classic motorsports event. It’s the only occasion where you’ll see in action the greatest competition cars and star drivers from the entire history of motorsport - everything from 19th Century steam carriages to current Formula One, fabulous racing motorcycles; 2500bhp Land Speed Record cars alongside engineless soapbox racers; plus motorsport legends like Moss, Surtees, Brabham and Andretti rubbing shoulders with today's hottest properties such as Jenson Button and Richard Burns.
Motor racing first came to Goodwood in 1936 when the Earl of March held a private hillclimb through the park. Five years earlier he had won the Brooklands Double 12 and in 1948, as the Duke of Richmond, he opened the Goodwood Motor Circuit. These early events inspired his grandson Charles March to bring motor sport back to Goodwood, and this resulted in the first Festival of Speed, held in 1993 in the picturesque parkland surrounding Goodwood House.
Since the inaugural meeting, the Festival has become established as the key event in historic motorsport's social calendar. But it's not all about action on the hill. Unrestricted access to the paddocks means that spectators and autograph hunters can get closer to the cars and drivers than at almost any other meeting. Away from the bustle of competition, you can relax with a picnic on the lawns of the House among some of the most beautiful and innovative automotive creations, which are judged in the Cartier ‘Style et Luxe’ design competition. You can explore the exciting displays of our many exhibitors, or seek an adrenaline rush from the Festival's interactive entertainment, including driving simulators and tank rides. Children will delight in the special amusements to be found at the Junior Festival of Speed
The Festival is motor racing's equivalent of Ascot or Wimbledon, an extravaganza of sound and colour that has been described as 'the garden party of the Gods'. In combination with the rich period theatre of our Motor Circuit Revival Meeting, the Festival of Speed ensures that Goodwood is unrivalled throughout the world.

After visiting the Monterey Classics and Pebble Beach Concourse in 1997 experiencing Goodwood has been near to top of my to do list.
Take some photos ... please!
Interesting that JV is the only BAR driver to manage to skip the personal appearence thing....
Hey Joe, any notes you can take on the Millen "car" would be much appreciated. And photos of the suspension and engine compartment would be a big bonus.

Ooohh, I so want to go one of these days. I saw last year's coverage on Speed Those guys really *race* their priceless race cars, much more so than they do at Monterey. Coincidentally I will be catching Rhys Millen and the SCCA PRORally cars at the Pikes Peak Int'l Hillclimb next week. If winning at Knox ever gets boring ..http://www.ppihc.com
Now back to your regular thread.
