Thread: FP class

    FP class

    Hey everyone,

Anybody running in this class for the CACC events? I had to get my gears replaced and as a result, the ratios have changed putting me in this class. Just wondering if I will be the only one.

It's been a few days and there have been no replies, so here's what I can offer:

Assuming that there are no other untoward modifications on your vehicle, I beleive it is eligible for Street Mod (SM) as, from a brief look through the rules, I cannot find an explicit exclusion of gearing changes from SM.

I don't think anyone runs in FP locally, but don't hold me to that.

Transmissions are free in SM, any gearing you want. If you want to install a Hewland Sequential, go right ahead. No need to go to FP, unless you changed out the bumper beam...

Great thanks guys, I was sure that gear ratio changes automatically put me into Prepared class. There is definatly lots of people in SM.

Since I cant start a new thread...

Ive just built a short course offroad race truck, Im thinking of changing up the suspension and setting it up for some autocross. Its basically a toyota pickup caged and gutted, it has a motor swap from a tacoma, but the suspension pickup points are all stock due to the class I race in for the trucks main duty. I just want to get the most racing bang for the buck out of this little truck.

My thoughts are dropped spindles, a more street oriented leaf pack, the suspension is already very stiff from the offroad racing, i might need to tune with front or rear sway bars depending on how it feels. Ive got a set of 18x10 and 18x9.5 wheels for it already.

Any thoughts on what class I could race in? Prepared seems the closest, but maybe modified?

    Thanks,

    Rob

trucks aren't allowed in any class street mod and below(with the exception of the x runner), im not sure about above.

i would imagine your truck is also loud? the sound limits at pitt meadows are very low.

Yes my truck is loud, but I would have no problem putting a different muffler on it.

Hoping its possible....something a little smoother than the dirt track would be a nice change for my back!

    Re: FP class

Probably not the usual setup scenario we see around here, but it woudl be good to help you explore the options. It woudl definitely be a mod or prepared car and the biggest challenge will be dealing with the center of gravity. At this point you're best of to study the rulebook inside out for those 2 classes and pitch some specific questions back to the crowd here. There are a few fellas that are on the rules committee that should help you interpret some stuff.

    Re: FP class

Not 100% up on the rule, but only a very few pickup trucks are eligible to enter solo events.
Center of gravity, and probability of rollover, being the obvious reason they do not qualify.

When its ready for asphalt, COG won't be an issue, I would imagine it will be as low or lower than most cars. Who should i contact to find out if I can do this?

Thanks for you help so far everyone!

    According to the SCCA rules...

"Unstable vehicles with a high center of gravity and a narrow track,
including SUV’s, minivans, and 4WD pickups, must be excluded
(e.g. Suzuki Samurai, Scion XB, Jeep CJ series, and GEO Tracker/
Suzuki Sidekick). Extra caution should be exercised with non-
traditional vehicles, e.g. trucks using racing slicks"

My truck is 2wd, so once its lowered there shouldnt be a problem I hope! The only thing I could see in the Prepared category that I wouldnt pass is my lack of a windshield, but lexan windshields are legal so thats easy enough.

Not to mention they have a couple truck classes apparantly:

    Solo-Truck
1990 Tony Mashburn Carrollton, GA Toyota Pick-up
    Truck Sport
1991 Tony Mashburn Carrollton, GA Toyota Pick-up
